  1. Callus is a botany term, it is a tissue that
  2. forms at a damaged plant surface. Composed of
  3. large, thin-walled parenchyma cells, it grows
  4. over and around the wound, eventually 
  5. covering the exposed area. In animals, a 
  6. callus is a thickened pad of skin, formed 
  7. where there is repeated rubbing against a 
  8. hard surface. In humans, calluses often 
  9. develop on the hands and feet of those 
  10. involved in heavy manual work.
